Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association
This weekend the Bohemians lent their garden help to the Texas Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association (TOFGA) at the Renewable Energy Roundup in Fredericksburg, Texas. The Roundup presented visitors with a wide collection of sustainable living businesses and organizations.
It is always inspiring to attend these events and imagine organic gardens, rainwater systems, solar panels, and wind energy turbines installed at every home in Texas. In the words of Sachmo, “What a wonder wonderful world.”
Meanwhile, under the TOFGA tent the following discussions flew around: how do you start the organic certification process, what are the regulations governing backyard poultry, why did tomato crops fail this year, how to build soils biota with expanded shales, charcoal and granite, why dung beetles are a dog owners best friends and dozens more…The most popular books being sold and requested were The Texas Bug Book, Texas Gardeners Almanac and a number of books on rainwater harvesting.
I sat back at one point and noted that all these volunteers are the leaders in organic food in Texas. The Bohemian staff soaked up the knowledge and shared their own during the Roundup. We looking forward to the next gathering of TOFGA on January 29th and 30th of 2010 for their annual conference.
